Neat. the fluctuating wire cost, consumer demand, and ability to adjust the price definitely set it apart from my humble 48 nonillion cookies-per-second bakery.

What inspired Cookie Clicker?
Mostly just Candy Box's idle mechanic, which I thought would be silly to make a whole game out of. It really just started as a joke, I didn't think people would actually play it for more than 10 minutes !
This game really brings back memories for me. I remember back in high school, a buddy of mine would bring his laptop to class and just have this game running constantly all day and leave it going...
This game really brings back memories for me. I remember back in high school, a buddy of mine would bring his laptop to class and just have this game running constantly all day and leave it going at night. By the end of the week he had 'prestiged' a number of times and his screen was just a flood of cookies and evil grandmas.
True story: I clicked so much once playing this that i developed carpal tunnel-like symptoms and had to stop for a while. now i only click on the actual cookie if there's a click frenzy combo :P

I will never understand incremental games, I think. I like games where I make numbers go up, sure, but only as a complement to the actions I'm actually performing. Whenever I try one of these it's...

It's one of those things where you start playing it just sort of ironically, and then the next thing you know you're building a cookie planet on a minecraft server, complete with grandmastronauts,...

When you work in a call-center, hate your life, and they don't block it or monitor you that closely... it gets you through the day without turning to hard drugs or alcohol!

It's the allure of a small success just being that close, of watching the numbers go up, buying new things, but never getting enough so that you're fully satisfied.

Nice. Have you messed with the new garden minigame much? I haven't entirely figured it out, but I've gotten up to the green clovers through sort of bumbling around with it.

Yeah, I've bred around a dozen or so plants and upgraded my farm to a full plot. Honestly I don't like it, the garden minigame is annoying. I mostly just grow baker's wheat for around a 40% CPS...

If you like cookie clicker, I fully recommend the paperclip game.

And there are 2 more phases after all that
Yeah! Also in the app store for your phone!
but it costs 99 cents.
I've always preferred paying a dollar as opposed to dealing with adds or IAPs being thrown at me.
Interesting! Thanks for this
Last time I played this, I sunk 3 days. Never again clicking on this link.

Worst mistake in my life is starting a new universal paperclips game the day before my final exams.
These clicker games can be super addictive.
Stay clean, my friend.
I had never actually tried one of these before, and boy am I glad that I came back to see your comment before I got too deep!
I still prefer the original Cookie Clicker :)

SPACEPLAN gets my vote!
Fantastic interesting story.
Didn't candy box come first?

oh you may be right. my mistake!
From Orteil's AMA:
Oh wow, I've played both those games (and the excellent Candy Box 2) but never knew that candy box came before cookie clicker.

I absolutely love Cookie Clicker. I've been playing for over a year and just passed 1 decillion CPS
