Keys/Bass/Gtr over here, but play a mean drum machine as well. Ran two recording studios, made some records, and then took a full time gig at a university because benefits, pension and 5 weeks paid vacation don't suck at all. Miss the studio work a lot, but still do concert sound on occasion.

I'm always a bit jealous of people who followed music into a career, I love that you have so much recording experience and now work at a school. You could scope out some talent and potentially guide them in the right direction in terms of mixing and sound. Also, always good to get those benefits, good on you.

Cheers, man. the music career isn't easy for sure, and isn't for everyone. Burn out is high, the hours can really suck and for a lot of people the financial reality simply doesn't make it worth while.

Hey, thanks dude. Definitely an interesting path, though I still wonder what my life would have been like had I gone to Law school like I meant to when I was a student.

I play the drums, not professionally, just for fun. I’ve got a pretty nice kit I’m proud of. My skill level is middle of the road.

Copying my answer from a similar thread in ~creative:

Drummer here. Playing 30+ years. My current active projects are a jazz trio with a twice-monthly gig at a piano bar, a brass band that plays New Orleans jazz and funk, and a couple of soul jazz groups. I also have a bunch of other projects that cycle in and out of the rotation - some singer/songwriters, a blues pianist, a prog-funk band. Also do occasional weddings, private parties and recording sessions. I have a day job too but I rarely turn down a chance to play.

    Here's a few things I'm on:
Bill Richards - My Theoretical Nightmare - weird jazz/prog/funk (just released this weekend!)
Afroskull - Spyplane - slightly less weird jazz/prog/funk
The Reverend John DeLore - The Myth Of Rebellion (rock)
The Allison Leyton-Brown Trio - On The Sunny Side Of The Street - jazz, live in NYC

I play keys and guitar mostly. Did my classical piano exams and then started learning by ear and teaching myself guitar. I then started messing with Bitwig and production in general. Mostly listen to funk, disco, and more bands I struggle to find genres for (Feist, War on Drugs, Timber Timbre, Courtney Barnett, ...)

Never played in a band but may try get into one in the next few months. I haven't been playing recently so I've gotta brush up on my skills first! No music online sadly!

I've been practicing Guitar and Bass for a year now, which is huge considering I have difficulties committing to things. Recently I've been playing songs I tried to play when I first started and seeing just how much better I've gotten. At the moment I know just about all the parts to several songs but my biggest obstacle is stringing everything together to play the song in its entirety. I'll have to buckle down and memorize how all these songs go at some point. My biggest dream is to be in a band but I have no idea where to look or if I'm good enough to be a guitarist

Started with guitar and bass something like 20 years ago now, though don't play a ton anymore. I've been learning drums lately and also picked up a merlin m4 recently (http://www.seagullguitars.com/en/products/m4) which has somehow gotten me really interested in building instruments. I've built a cajon and some other random wooden percussion in the past, but I'm now working my way up towards some stringed instruments.

I play the saxophone, piano, and bass. Guitar obviously extends from bass, but I've never taken the time to learn chords.

I play guitar and sing in open mics at bars. I've been doing that fairly regularly for the last 6 years until this last year. I haven't written any songs though, I just do covers. Usually a mix of classic rock tunes and more contemporary indie-ish music like Avett Brothers or whatever. All of this solo-acoustic, though if there's a drummer or bass player or whatever playing with people I'm happy to have them with me.
