I love stories and media from the PoV of digital systems like this. The data-based beings in the Deathworlders series has a similar feel, and I get a glimpse of the same idea in The Martian when Pathfinder reboots. Having the world be broken and ripe for exploration just makes it more alluring somehow. The idea of experiencing the world not through physical distances (which do matter here, just not directly) but through RTT and processing times is alien to me, despite working in tech. I don't know why, but the concept fascinates me.
