I had been wanting to try my hand at scratch-building and kit-bashing, so I had my friend draw me a ship and then I set out to build it. I am pretty happy with how it turned out! Especially for my first time.

I'd love to hear any questions or suggestions

How did you go about sourcing kits with relevant parts/shapes? Did you already have a lot of spare parts on-hand or did you seek out model kits with components that you thought/knew would be useful?

        Great question!

I really only kit-bashed with a single kit of a Panzer model tank. Pretty sure it was a Tamiya Panzer IV. I basically went to a model shop and compared various tanks by their price:piece count ratio. This one was very economical.

I feel like I should have done more kit bashing, though. I was worried about adding too much detail but I think I ended up adding too little. 95% of the model is sheets of styrene that I cut up and glued together.

Oh, and I only thought to use model tanks because Adam Savage talks about how they used model tanks while making ships for star wars.

Edit: Now that I think of it there may be one or two bits from some random battleship model I had

That's pretty awesome. It reminds me of a lot of the stuff I see Adam Savage do in his One Day Builds videos on Tested. Any plans to paint it as well? If so, please do share some more pics when...

Protip: if you end up wanting to try it, I highly suggest trying to find a plastic distributor near you. The small ~8"×10" sheets are like 4 bucks at hobby stores, but I just paid $25 for a 4'×8' sheet.

I may paint it. Idk, it was only ever meant to test my build skills, bot my paint skills. But I have thought about painting it a few times. If I do, I will be sure to post an update!

Adam Savage is great for that, since his enthusiasm is just so infectious!
