So, after having a lot of people be super helpful and friendly with me on a topic I made about converting my tabletop campaign into some video games, I have been doing just that.

@Apos had a really great suggestion with Inky, I do love the way the engine handles a lot of story elements since the game I would make would have a lot of story elements. Unfortunately, that's all it really does. It plugs into Unity to handle the rest of the game and most people in the thread seemed to think Unity might be beyond my capabilities.

That said, I still might swing back to it because the other suggestion I saw a lot that I liked was Godot. So, for the past week or so, I've been running this tutorial from from Davide Pesce and figuring out how to use the engine a bit. I'm about half way done (just finished step 12 of 19 last night) and it's been very interesting. It definitely helps that I took about 12 credits of programming classes a decade and a half ago, I am certainly not capable of coding something on my own, but I am understanding how the code works that I'm given and what it's doing (roughly). The game in the tutorial is actually much more complicated than something I would like to make, so it's nice to push myself beyond my, very purposeful, low horizons.

Given how intense Godot is, there's a lot of scripting, I think after I'm done with Pesce's tutorial, I may try Unity just for the hell of it to see how that goes. Unity has even more tutorials available and other resources because it is pretty much industry standard. There's a lot of give and take in terms of which one would be better if I find I could use both reasonably well; I do like that Godot is open source, for example. But I'm still a ways out from making a decision.

I was surprised to find how many people from my campaign are interested in helping with the game. I originally just asked them for permission to use/remix their characters for this project and got everyone's blessings. Of the nine players and one co-GM we've had over the last four years, four of them want to help with the writing and two of them want to help with the coding. So, it's turning into a much bigger thing than I originally planned.

But we're still super early. As someone that does creative stuff for a living, I know how early excitement and desire for involvement can flame out in a hurry. But for now, it's nice to at least be able to bounce ideas around.

The only power tools I used were a drill and sander. I cut all the wood with a handsaw, and got the ends square with a plane and shooting board.

It was my first major woodworking project, and it turned out so well, I can't wait to do more.
