What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
I've been doing some hummingbird videography. I found an old iPhone in my attic the other day and ended up setting it up on some our bird feeders. I've tried a few different settings, including slow-mo. It's a lot of fun! I've been editing it all together in Final Cut Pro. The hardest part is actually the composition (as always). We have window-mounted hummingbird feeders like this one. So I'm filming through glass. Getting the angle right so there are no reflections and the backgrounds aren't a mess (or pointing directly at our neighbors walking by the house) is tricky. I was able to remove some of the reflections by draping black cloth over some items in the house, but I'm probably going to build a little black frustum out of cardboard to put around the camera up to the window, as that's easier.
Any chance you could share some of your videos? No worries if not, I'm just curious to see them (and I love hummingbirds). :)
I'd like to. I'll need to figure out where I can put them. Let me see what I can do.
@cfabbro I've uploaded it here. (I think. This is my first time uploading something to Vimeo. Let me know if you can see it.) I should also mention that I was limited in the length of the video because I have a free account. So I cut it down to only about 10 minutes and at half width/half height. But it should give you an idea of what I'm doing. I think most of the clips in this video were filmed with my iPhone 11 rather than the older iPhone 5S.
Sweet, thanks! Hummerbirds are so pretty! And you did a great job getting nice, clear shots of them. Crazy how far phone cameras have come in recent years too.
p.s. You have an absolutely beautiful yard, BTW. I would kill for my own lemon tree like that, but sadly I don't think the -30°C winter weather we regularly get here in Ontario would be very kind to it. ;)
Thanks so much! I appreciate the feedback! As a former Michigander and Chicagoan, I know how it goes with cold yards!
I'm thinking about re-editing it to compress the time during which their heads are down while they're drinking as it's most of the time of the video. It would also allow me to show more shots in the short time Vimeo allows for free accounts.
NP! I personally enjoyed the video as is, since it was relaxing, and almost felt like I was watching them live myself. But some more compressed timeline editing probably wouldn't go amiss either. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. :)
Released a track in collab with a vocalist, quiet happy with the result. My cheap Yamaha guitar is now completely dead (bridge is cracking), so it's time to get a new one (thinking of the Taylor 214ce).
Yeah it's good for the garbage as it is, so I could try to mod it.
I have this old 2.1 speaker set. It is working fine, but it only has inputs for SD card, USB and antenna. No aux, unfortunately. As a result, it is more or less useless.
I want to convert it to Bluetooth, but not sure how. Can anyone point me to some reference, or something to start with?
I don't know of a guide specifically for exactly what you're planning to do, but earlier this year Linus Tech Tips made their own bluetooth speaker, and they included a parts list in the description which might at least give you a good starting point:
