I greatly enjoy revisiting old works and Willow was in desperate need of a re-draw. I tried my best to give her a clearer design (like where/when she’s from) as well as trying to focus on expression. That’s something I struggle with A LOT and something I’ve been trying to work through. I wanted her smile to be more convincing and have the rest of her face more active in the expression itself.

I think revisiting old work is a catharsis; it helps me remember where I started and that’s something I desperately need, especially considering how many amazing artists are out there. It’s very easy to lose yourself in how good everyone else’s work looks and forget the path you took to get to where you are now. It’s also just a fun exercise to see where I’ve improved and trying to parse an old character design into something I’m more interested in haha.

I like setting up these points throughout my art that I can refer back to. It’s easy to just pick the best of each era but it’s something special to look at very specific pieces and how the work has changed. I can also say very confidently that my process when drawing has also changed over time, and that has been a boon towards my own improvement. I used to literally stick myself with a quick sketch and finish it as fast as humanly possible. I try to take things a little slower now and let it marinate hah. I also try to play around with my sketching more, so I’ll make a lot of small and larger changes just to mess around and see if something improves. A lot of my better art from my earlier years was pure luck and not a precedent. I’m making sure that’s no longer the case.

Also, hand out daintily to the side? Always, thx.

This is so cool! It feels like Willow has grown up alongside your skills. Just as your art is maturing, so is she! Also, I love her 2021 outfit! It’s very not-2021 in a good way. :)

Thank you!! Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm so happy! Yes, I was very inspired by the Edwardian era for her, and that's kind of where I'm putting her story!
