I fully support us using Nuclear to help our transition to more renewables. However, I don't trust the Ford government when it comes to regulation as Ford has proven time and time again to be corrupt and to only care about enriching his cronies. And of course the PCs are leading in the polls again because this province can't escape the trap of "PCs good for business".

AFAIK the Provincial governments don't have any power when it comes to regulating nuclear energy here in Canada. It's the Federal government that's entirely in charge of that, via the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. So thankfully dumbass Dougie and his cronies aren't likely to have any say in the matter.

p.s. My cousin is a Nuclear Physicist, and currently working as a Nuclear Safety Engineer at OPG's Bruce facility. So when I see him later this month at Easter, I'll ask him what he thinks about all this.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I realize that it is a Federal controlled item, I just cannot trust Doug not to figure out some way to enrich himself.

I mean, I think that's a given due to how many land developers Dougie has extremely close ties to, and how many other times he's already been caught doing them favors. See: The Greenbelt scandal,...

I mean, I think that's a given due to how many land developers Dougie has extremely close ties to, and how many other times he's already been caught doing them favors. See: The Greenbelt scandal, Highway 413 and Bradford Bypass controversies, etc. But so long as the new power plants actually get built, I honestly don't care if some of the development contracts end up going to certain friends of the Premiere. That sort of thing happening is par for the course when it comes to the Ford government and Ontario infrastructure projects. And the same shit happened on several city infrastructure projects here in Toronto under Rob Ford's leadership too. Family of greedy, corrupt, scumbags that they are. :/

Facts, except I do care if he keeps enriching himself or else we are going to be stuck with him forever.

I 100% agree. Nuclear energy can be the energy solution we need now, until we fully realise and harness the potential of renewables. The goal is to replace fossil fuels, but we cannot in our current capacity. Nuclear energy will decrease, or abolish, our reliance on non-renewables until such a time as renewables become the main source of energy. It is frustrating that it has taken this long, but the "best time to plant a tree, is today" as the old adage goes.

I agree with the PC concern, I don't know they will handle it. The last I heard, they(?) wanted to bury the nuclear waste underground, near the great lakes SOURCE. As long as that doesn't happen and there is environmental considerations, Canada can push nuclear in our transition.
