As of 4/9/22, about 20-ish, I believe, out of an original team of ~70. The remainder either quit, were laid off, or were fired.
Before that’s a cause for alarm, however, many of these remaining 20 were key people in New Vegas’ development, and Obsidian also has Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain on board, even though both are on Outer Worlds (2), and Leonard and Tim are the original creators of Fallout.
That was obviously a long time ago, but Tim Cain famously came back in 2025 and Leonard Boyarsky is still there according to LinkedIn. At this point, I would trust them to make a better Fallout than Bethesda. Add on Josh Sawyer and I don't know that you can get much better than that for an RPG, let alone the next Fallout.

No game studio has unlimited resources, especially with the current climate at Microsoft/Xbox. Putting effort into co-op takes resources away from other areas of the game. I personally believe we end up with a worse product. I do want Skyrim in Hammerfall, if you want to simplify it to that extent. It's never that simple, but that's basically been the entire series.

I get the idea. I don't want it. I like single player, first person RPGs. The game fundamentally changes if you need to design it around 2-4 players. You also need servers and net code. No company wants to do that unless they can monetize it. That's how we ended up with ESO and Fallout 76. Neither game is particularly good in my opinion, but that's probably the closest you're getting.

That said, the game is fantastic so far. I was worried it would be too slow or something but it's definitely a great JRPG in my first 10ish hours of play.

Selfishly, this means I can now buy whatever this game is since I have a Microsoft boycott going and First Light is easily the best single player game I have played since Indiana Jones.

Random thoughts. I didn't know the man or anything about him, so I'm just some stranger on the internet. Jurassic Park I often credit for my passion for skepticism. Dr Grant is a cranky skeptic. Maybe that's silly, I don't know. I liked the movie. I also love Event Horizon. It was amusing to me to see Sam Neill do both. He is an actor in two of my favourite movies from the 90s that I still often watch.
