In Celebration of Earth Day, Let’s Talk About Investing in Community Forests
I missed this yesterday.
The company paid to have someone come and talk about forest bathing and fungi. Always love fungi.
Being Monday, my appreciation of the earth was limited somewhat to feeding the domesticated and wild birds in the yard
Fungi are fun. Not sure if you forage.. I've spent the past couple years starting to learn IDs and foraging a few beginner friendly mushrooms.
I have to say, even with an environmental/outdoorsy background, attempting mushroom foraging has been giving me a new perspective on the habitats Ive been searching, as fungi are so particular about when and where they pop up.
There's also something incredibly childlike exploring through eating (after confirming my IDs) I didnt quite expect vs. IDing alone.
I come from a culture where darn near anything foraged that doesn't outright kill you will be consumed. Even stuff that isn't tasty is probably good for you and we try to boil it to heck and drink the broth. So foraging something not only edible but downright delicious is just amazing
Last year we found so much chanterelles that we joked the favored habitat for them is "by the side of the logging road"
Really hope the weather holds out this weekend and we'll find some spring buddies. Saw some hedgehog mushrooms at the end of their season last year but there were only three so we left them alone
Good luck with your search! I found a pretty large haul of hedgehogs last year and Im looking forward to them again. Among my faves of the mushrooms Ive tried, possibly even more than chanterelles.

This is ironic considering the other recent post about Spotify lowering artist commissions, but there's an initiative with UN that made Nature an artist so all tracks listing Nature as an artist have the money from them go to conservation efforts. I am not active on any social media so I'm not sure how else they've promoted it, but the website is interesting.
