This story is so satisfying. I hate anti-bird spikes. They are a company saying that bird poop makes parts of their buildings ugly, but rather than having enough staff on the payroll to take the time to clean it up from time to time, they put these spikes up so that it’s always ugly.
Honestly, I really dislike the trend of building things to be as unwelcoming as possible. Weather it’s building benches you cannot comfortably lay or sit on, putting ugly numbs on handrails to prevent skateboarders and also make it harder to support the people who need it the most, or a brutalist approach that is more depressing than anything because it’s easier to hose off than take the time to maintain properly.
I used to do maintenance on weather stations and had to put bird spikes on our rain gauges. Some birds would manage to build a nest inside them anyway and basically use the spikes as free...
I used to do maintenance on weather stations and had to put bird spikes on our rain gauges. Some birds would manage to build a nest inside them anyway and basically use the spikes as free fortifications. So I'm not surprised that they've figured out a way to destroy the little flimsy spikes.
