If you were at the edge of the flooding, one moment you'd be standing there with someone, and the next, they'd be gone forever. Possibly even dead before they know they've been swept away.
It's worse than the footage I've seen of most (all?) major tsunamis, including 2004, although that was obviously far deadlier.
