      i mean, that's most of diamond's work for you, honestly. his seminal idea and seminal book is structured around a thesis which might have some basis but which he'll never be able to really back up...

      I know this isn't very relevant to the main point of the article but the first paragraph just seemed egregiously wrong to me. Diamond blames the collapse of Easter Island society on the Rapa Nui themselves when It seems more likely that the Rapa Nui were another victim of colonialism.

      i mean, that's most of diamond's work for you, honestly. his seminal idea and seminal book is structured around a thesis which might have some basis but which he'll never be able to really back up because it's somewhat bombastic and which most people educated in the field don't particularly agree with. most of the rest of his work is not that much better in that regard.
