There's also a good reason to buy an EV and road-trip it to various places. Also, as electric planes come into service, it'll be interesting to see if they can provide green travel options.

We don't have train networks between most major cities in the States, unfortunately. Where possible, I try and take whatever will keep my impact at a minimum.

According to this factsheet, U.S. commercial aviation emissions account for only ~7% of U.S. transportation emissions, or ~2% of total U.S. emissions, or ~0.3% of global emissions. It's great to...

It's great to consider your impact, buy travel-by-air seems to be relatively negligible. Unless...I'm not accounting for something or other..
The statistic I've more commonly seen is that air travel is 2% of global emissions (source: IATA). Also (as Drawdown notes), air travel is on the rise right now, so we're only making things worse...

Regardless - I don't think we're going to fix climate change through one solution alone. It'll take a lot of little changes, and I often think about how small changes, multiplied over a billion people, can really add up. I'm not saying the onus is entirely on individuals to change their lives, either - again, reducing air travel is but one of a multitude of ways we can address climate change.

I still am at a loss though for why we don't have a complete rail line from Seattle to San Diego.
When does Coast Starlight operate? I've never heard of it in researching Amtrak Routes.
Daily as far as I am aware.
I will be taking it up to Seattle in early October.
Australian here.
Tried this and got very wet.
Also if I don't go to conferences I'm out of a job.

For sure, I'm not saying that we shouldn't strive to reduce emissions everywhere we can, but I think it's good to keep things in perspective.
