I was actually recommended it due to the flakiness of my scalp and it has done wonders. That, and having a buzz cut for a few years.

Honestly, I'd say they are all tied around this idea of being a renaissance man, and being able to develop, succeed, and growth myself through multiple fields and disciplines. To do the things that I dreamed about when I was a kid, and really see how far I can go in achieving them. The more realistic side to that I trying to be a bridge between different disciplines and fields to solve complex problems that involve the experience of multiple fields.

Honestly I love anything that manages to cross genre lines and just become something entirely unique and original. So mainly that puts around the indie and alt scenes. Especially when bands go into completely new areas that I've never experienced before. That's how I really got into Alt-J, for example. However, I've also been into the whole neo-funk thing that The Internet and Steve Lacy did, as well as how it has interpreted by Anderson.Paak.

Thank you. I've seen both and I agree that I am that way, but I still feel like I'm in an impossible battle. I don't necessarily think there is a major in the world that would fit me, and I'm quite scared that there is nothing I can do to get a career that isn't for specialized folk, especially in my current STEM major. And the careers I'm interested in seem to hire very few or are very hard to break into.

Hopefully this didn't put you down, I really appreciate the post and what you linked. It's more that I have this knowledge and understanding of myself, yet don't know what to do with it, or how to do what I want to do with it.

There's no seems to be no easy path, and as much as I want to follow it I don't necessarily like it's chances of getting me where I want to eventually go, and so I'm faced with a choice of studying what interests me now and almost putting together my own education in a way that would make me highly generalized, but potentially unfit for hire anywhere and everywhere outside of a Starbucks, or specializing by staying in my current major, hating it, and hoping to maneuver my way to getting something better that more aligns with my goals in life. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place and there really doesn't seem to be any preferable way out.

    Thanks regardless.

If I'm unrealistic or foolish to want to be a generalist over being a specialist in general professional life? I definitely feel quixotic at times when everyone around me is perfectly happy in their studies, yet I feel unfulfilled. I hate the idea of being stuck in one track of a career for my entire adult life, but I feel like there really is no way out.

That's fair. I've found that online reading is great to get to know a subject, but to really dig down deep into it is when I get into book territory.

Hailer said his group agreed that super PACs were a problem but that Math PAC’s work was essential to “make sure that we are enacting election reform measures that prohibit this type of work from happening.”

I wasn't sure if there had been some changes lately or if it was my head, but I thought there used to be a politics group within Tildes. Regardless, it seems that I've noticed a culpible decline in the number of posts that are related to politics and especially US politics. I also noticed that it seems that some more prominent users got banned or left? Obviously I can understand if the people here were tired of hearing about it and wanted to give other groups some more room for the front page, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a fluke or my imagination. I don't come here as often as I should, but it just seemed a little different. Hopefully this doesn't spark any massive outcry or anger or anything, I'm just out of the loop, and don't want to cause any trouble. I like this place. I like you all.

Edit: Wow this seems to have really gotten out of control and spread to discussions about moderation logs and how much we should pay attention to US politics in relation to world politics or even how much we should catastrophize over recent political developments. I almost feel like I shouldn't have brought this up and I apologize. I really didn't intend on causing any ire for those in charge or for massive debates.

Honestly, mine has been very similar where I've wanted to pursue multiple interests, from working as a journalist/photojournalist and getting the stories that need to be told, being a rocket engineer or astronaut, and generally a bunch of things. I used to dream about doing all of these things when I was young, and I guess I'm too stubborn and too scared to let my dreams die. Which does lead into my current conundrum about my dissatisfaction with the major I'm studying, yet also realization that nothing would probably satisfy my desires.

However, the one thing that I want to do the most is probably be a designer at a firm like IDEO, to be able to work with people from all different disciplines and majors to solve some of the most pressing issues worldwide. I've always been interested in how all of the pieces connect, and how to attack the root of the issues that we face worldwide and even nationally (in the US, at least). In a way, it's kind of the fufillment of that dream of exploring it all, and kind of becoming a renaissance man to do real lasting good for the world. To work and collaborate with others while we all learn and feed off of each other feels like the perfect place to be. It is what keeps me going in my current major, and I seriously hope that one day I get the chance to really apply and have an interview for there. I know they are insanely hard to get into, my career advisor literally put it along the same level as becoming an astronaut, so I obviously have a ways to go.

Still, I'm kind of one to dream big, and ambitious enough to try to catch them all. To chase that dream I'm generally always trying to learn and grow and better myself every day. I don't watch TV anymore and almost everything I do online is with the intent that I'm trying to learn further. I'll especially go on little research periods where I'll study things like UBI, or Media Studies, or City/Urban Design, or how the Google Glass works.

Sorry I kind of went longer than the topic of the post, but it has been something that has been on my mind for over a year now. Life kind of has a way of doing everything it can to take away our dreams, and turn us into little boring grey squares, and I'm absolutely terrified of becoming one of those. Keep the dream alive folks, it seems to be getting harder every day to do so, but I will if you do to.
