What an interesting article.
I think there are many cases which show that people don't understand how damaging an invasive species can be to an environment which cannot challenge it. With the goats here the situation is even stranger, since you cannot just shoot them.
Seattle Times article from 2018 has some more information on the process. Notably, they don't move the goats by helicopter the entire way, just airlift them out of the mountains and into a staging area that's accessible by road.
