The King of the Hill episode "A Year of Washing Dangerously" released in 2006. A year after YouTube was first created but long before the rise of Internet gurus. Why bring up that episode? Because Kahn gets a VHS tape where Doctor Money tells him to buy a turnkey business to generate passive income. That's all well and good but back then the scams mostly hit those looking for them. The term "get rich quick scheme" didn't originate with Tai Lopez. CutCo knives and MLMs. Mary Kay and the ilk. They've all been everywhere and, just like everything else, the Internet makes them more visible.
I think the video certainly touches on the proliferation of these scams but also that it's just another symptom of the Web 2.0 tumor we thought was benign.
