My organization had Joe Scarlett, the former president & CEO of TSC, speak at our annual event last year. He mainly spoke about what businesses need in college graduates. But he also talked about the importance of employees, whether in corporate or stores, helping them achieve their goals and personal development, and overall being there for them. Wasn't the most thrilling speech, to me, but I could get behind most of what he was saying.

But then he started speaking off-the-cuff, and said that colleges "need to stop with this woke stuff!" and "get rid of CRT!" Which prompted many of our black members, among others, in the audience to walk out of the speech. Some of whom teach at HBCUs and other colleges that serve underrepresented groups. We're an apolitical organization that proudly works with faculty and universities all over country and over 60 countries. It's a huge point of pride for us. It was not a good look for the org, to say the least and many attendees were unhappy. Entirely unexpected and entirely inappropriate for him to say those things.

All that to say, not surprised in the slightest.

More right-wing/conservative idiots trying to drag us back to the dark ages. Not surprised at all. Honestly conservativism is going to be the death of us all at this rate.

Idiotic. It wasn't even like that company was performing poorly.

It doesn't matter. Corps have now seen what happens when you piss off the Right Rage Monster (Bud Light), expect this trend to continue with almost any brand with even a large minority of conservative consumers.

I know that at least some of Bud Light's further slide was from the left when they didn't stick by Mulvamey, but i don't think these brands care.

No brand cares about anything but money.

This was the case, this is the case, and this will be the case.

Any company co-opting contemporary social issues as their own is simply corrupting the movement and polluting it with their own negative social influence. And they'll squeeze a movement into whatever provides the most profit. Whether this is showing pride during pride month, or being anti-woke, hell some companies you know had swastikas on their logos in WW2, it's all posturing.

Aside from the rare CEO that actually pivots their company based on their personal beliefs, most companies follow the most profitable social agenda.

It's so simple too, just change your US Twitter profile to rainbows and hope nobody finds your Saudi Arabian Twitter account.

Do not trust a company to be your ally.

Yeah, I wish people would take bud light, tractor supply, and other similar companies into account the next time they celebrate the next token surface level pro LGBT initiative a large corporation does.

They don't believe in any of this shit. They only do it because they think it'll make you spend more money. If they ever get the slightest whiff that you won't spend more money, they'll reverse course so quickly it'll make your neck snap.

Every single one of these companies would gladly paint swastikas on their company headquarters and wear white hoods to press conferences if it meant their stock price went up by 10% next quarter. Publically traded companies don't have morals by design.

The Fortune 500 company has been nationally recognized as an inclusive and diverse workplace, including last year in Bloomberg’s Gender Equality Index and Newsweek’s inaugural list of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity.

But it recently became the target of conservative ire for that very reason, as the latest in a growing series of retailers to face backlash over — and ultimately walk back — its DEI initiatives.

    [...]

Those changes include: no longer submitting data to the Human Rights Campaign (an LGBTQ advocacy group), withdrawing its carbon emissions goals to focus on land and water conservation efforts, eliminating its DEI roles and retiring its current DEI goals “while still ensuring a respectful environment.”
