Completely agree with this piece. To make substantial and crucial progress, we need more that what LLMs can alone provide. We need something that can "continue to" learn and correct itself. Personally I think that will come with further research & development; it's simply a matter of time. But we certainly don't have that now, and to act like we do, while good for marketing, is harmful to users.

To me it felt more of the "AI take our jobs, AI bad" tripe. And I love John Stewart. This episode felt like poorly thought out filler. Worse, that this mind set gets an enormous amount of people to focus on the wrong problem to their own detriment.

Would have loved him to bend the narrative arc to the real enemy - the exploitive rich. Focus on our need to decouple human value from profit generation - perhaps even shed light on Sander's 4-day work week, something our tech advancements should have allowed decades ago. Lots of opportunity that was just left on the table...

Absolutely no need to spend any more time on this. It was just a few. Like:

"Musk disputes claims that standards are being lowered for minority or women doctors at Duke University, citing unsupplied evidence to the contrary."

Which makes Musk sound better than he actually did because he was arguing that DEI was lowering standards.

I think this is fine enough for people to take the summary with a grain of salt. Thanks for putting this together so less people have to listen to that blowhard!

Yep. I wish Elon would be removed by the board as I think he does more harm to the company with his public idiocy these days. However my Tesla FSD does a really good job driving me places, and is getting better. That said, I am always alert because it's software and can make mistakes. My job is to make sure it doesn't, and that's made really clear by the UI. It's basically riding coach to a pretty good student driver. I think being against this is only a smart idea if you believe something societally catastrophic is going to happen, otherwise the tech will eventually get to L4 given enough time.

I think the contingent point on whether people see Paul as a hero or villain, depends on how we interpret Paul's vision of this narrow band of events he'll need to trigger to succeed after he has survived the water of life. Is he seeing the path that puts Dune back into the hands of the Fremen (which he seems to have a genuine care for in the movie)? Or does he just see the path that saves his own family?

In that he comes back to Dune and lives like a hermit in the later books, I do have to seriously entertain the former.

This is affecting the medical industry as well, advertising campaigns, as innocent as they are, are leaking similarly sensitive data, allowing bad actors to gain sensitive medical data about patients. Sometimes these 3rd party ad trackers are installed on health portals supplied by hospitals where even more sensitive data is being leaked.
