Honestly the president themselves is only one reason to vote in the presidential election, among hundreds. Cabinet matters.

Absolutely; The investment includes panels & batteries, so power outages are absolutely covered; Had a 48hr outage about a year back and we scaled back electrical usage to some amenities and comforts but mostly necessities; Of the battery's 37kWh we consumed about half - that was during the winter where there was very little kWh production via panels. The cost of the panels was about 10yrs of typical electrical grid payments, ~18k. So in about 7 more years the system will have paid for itself. The batteries were more expensive than the panels though. I still recommend panels in the PNW however because utilities pay 1:1 (as they should); so after an average of 10 years you're still sitting pretty, and any outages in the summer will be pretty easy for you (winter without batteries, not so much).

I'm in the Pacific NW, no south facing roof. My panels (and batteries) cut down an electric bill of ~$140/mo to ~90/yr. Most utilities up here will credit you 1kwh per contributed 1kwh. Those credits build in the summer and help cut costs in the winter. I also get credit for letting the utility here take from my batteries during peak hours on specified days (only a handful throughout the year).

All that to say, lack of southern facing roof space in the NW isn't much of a barrier to entry.

I'm happy to see a growing body of evidence that the best ROI when it comes to helping people is to fund them directly. It's bringing life changing positive impact for those families and their communities for several generations, with relatively little investment compared to more indirect means. This is how a government should be spending money - to maximize their ROI.

Aside from the obvious that for business the point is to spend less (and we should demand living standards regardless of job status because this will eat everyone's lunch) for individuals the "purpose" is going to be murky.

Honestly there will always be artists and consumers who are more interested in sharing human made things with humans, regardless of profit. Digital painting hasn't killed physical paintings. Nor will AI kill the arts. (It will kill the arts being profitable for most).

Perspective shift: if most humans became expert level physical painters or physical musicians over night - you'd be in a similar position asking what's the point. If the talent pool is oversaturated, would that stop you from creating?

    I'd still be painting.

This might as well read "How it feels to get an email (instead of a hand written letter) from a friend". In cases like ESL, the LLM could have been used to translate, making it far easier for their friend to communicate. But let's ignore the message being broadcast in favor of being enraged by the method of broadcast. "LLMs can't be excited" neither can text. It's a tool to communicate. Get off the high horse.

I doubt op was taking the position that Trump was better for the economy, just that it's not doing as well as the statistics seem to suggest. Which might not be wrong. The economy doing well might be at the hidden expense of other factors. Such as the buying class forgoing buying critical items, such as housing, and the corporate class keeping their stock value high by gouging the internals of their companies, either with layoffs or producing far worse product - which the buying class feels so much that they coin the term "enshittification". And if this is systemic enough, it could suggest that our success is a bubble that might eventually pop.

Regardless - to anyone reading - go vote. Please go vote. History has shown us what someone like Trump does when they get back into positions of power.
