I make it a point to submit my claims, regardless of how little I expect it to be. I want the companies to lose these suits, and I want it recognized that there are people who have been hurt by their actions. If nobody bothers to file in the class action suits, it becomes performative legal work between corporations and lawyers.

Need to make it so they don't pull this shit because they know that egregious violations will actually cost them. But yes, this is better than the nothing we see most of the time. heh

Ah, I think I noticed precisely this issue. When I read in the news about US rates going up, I checked my account and was disappointed how low it was. I saw that I could create a new kind of savings account with a better rate, and switched to that. One of the reasons I opened an account there in the first place (at the time called ING) was the good interest rate, so I was a bit annoyed. It would be nice to get the missing chunk, even if it's not that large of a difference.

      Ugh disgusting

This is exactly why the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) exists – to guard against this kind of behavior. But as we've seen, the more we deregulate, the more common these cases become."

"As for the settlement, it's likely to be a typical 'pay without admitting guilt' deal. The issue here is that customers claim their savings accounts were capped at 0.3 percent interest, while the bank offered similar accounts paying up to 4.35 percent, effectively pocketing the spread. This isn't new – it's a classic case of exploiting the knowledge gap between the institution and its clients."

Tangerine (Canada) did a similar thing where they promised bonuses for new customers, but not existing customers, but the advertising doesn't make it immediately clear. I fell for it and hate them for it an am in the (slow) process of moving all my money away from them. I don't see a class action coming for me though.
