I suspect the concept is as much to blame as Yusupov's management of the product, or, apparent lack thereof. I had the app on my phone for roughly 2 months in the fall of 2018 and doubt I had the time to actually play enough of the scheduled games to total in double digits. It was a novel bit of fun that I always meant to play but in practice it just sat in my app drawer and sent twice daily push-notifications for me to dismiss. It was only a matter of time before I uninstalled it.
The idea of these massive multi-player game shows is cool but I can't say HQ Trivia ever captured my attention in any meaningful way and based on this article the percentage of people who fall into that same category is clearly high. Moving to a subscription model seems like a Hail Mary play rather than a sound strategy for the future so if it is possible to make these games work I'm not sure HQ Trivia will be the ones to do it.
I'm surprised that HQT hasn't made the leap to TV to create some sort of 'beat the audience' quiz show, where home contestants vote for an answer or something. Having an interactive platform like...
I'm surprised that HQT hasn't made the leap to TV to create some sort of 'beat the audience' quiz show, where home contestants vote for an answer or something. Having an interactive platform like that could make for some really fun television. The platform itself could be shipped out to other game shows like Wheel of Fortune, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Deal or No Deal, etc. I don't watch game / reality shows, but I assume that American Idol already has something like this in place.
I played THQ once with Danny DeVito (only a few months ago) and found the overall process to be exciting, despite the questions being fairly easy for someone of my age.
