I've been reverse searing my steaks for a few years now and find it to be the most reliable cooking method. It also doesn't require any specialized equipment beyond a wire rack which is a big plus in my book.

This may not apply to many people here but the short time it takes to sear in the skillet is also ideal for apartments or homes with sensitive smoke detectors or inadequate stovetop ventilation.

This is long overdue. I subscribe to a number of streaming services and Netflix has become something I hate using because that "feature" is terribly annoying. If I weren't getting it for free because of my mobile provider I would've cancelled it a year ago because of it. But I could see myself using Netflix more now that I can disable it.

It is also interesting that Phillip never references "cancel culture" that comes from Dave Holmes interpretations of what Phillip is saying. I do not think “woke” Hollywood and "cancel culture" are a one to one relationship

Fair enough, I shouldn't have used it interchangeably even if the article's author tried to connect his actual statement on "woke hollywood" with it.

I do agree with you though, he's at least self aware enough to carry on with something new. It seems like Joker has been a successful transition into a new genre where he may not feel so constrained. It'll be interesting to see where he goes from there.

That and as the article points out:

People are no more sensitive now than they were before, they can just get their criticisms right to you now.

There's a world of difference between gleaning some insight into problems with your directing/writing by reading professional reviewers in 2000 and actually being able to see what people didn't like about it in 2019 when the average person can tweet about it and there's a chance you may see it.

So I don't think people are suddenly too sensitive. It's just that as a writer or director there's much less of a barrier between art and audience. It's only natural to pushback against that when someone realizes that maybe their comedy isn't as great, or relevant, as it may have been.

Todd Phillips can vent his frustrations about working in modern comedy if he likes but it seems lazy to just blame it on "cancel culture" when it seems like he's just unwilling to grow alongside the genre.

I've seen that exact argument being made multiple times on reddit already. It strikes me as lazy fear-mongering to avoid discussing the actual issues with for-profit credit reporting agencies. Even if we set aside the other genuine problems with for-profit credit companies that this article highlights the 2017 Equifax data breach should've been enough to convince even the most paranoid that maintaining this private model is not viable.

I've used Podcast Addict for years and highly recommend it but I haven't used Podcast Republic so I can't offer you a comparison. However, I will say that the free version of Podcast Addict doesn't hide any features behind a paywall it's just ad supported and it includes both that you mentioned. So you won't be missing out on anything by giving the free version of the app a test drive for a couple days to see if it's worth your time.

Really consider whether hiring people to carry some boxes and furniture up those seven flights will be worth it.

I back this advice. I've done a similar move myself several years ago and regretted not hiring movers just to handle my furniture on five flights of stairs. It would've made my weekend so much easier and saved me another week of lingering aches and pains. As long as OP can afford it I think they'll find it was money well spent.

It's worth mentioning that if they ultimately decide to hire movers they should pack and move anything irreplaceable themselves. No matter how professional and highly recommended a moving company is they will never care about things of sentimental value as much as you do.

I don't see how an automatic "consider posting elsewhere" message isn't consistent with trying to move members and posts into other communities.

I know that admin comment blamed it on bad copy that's being changed but that just seems like a cop-out. I'm not sure how that warning could possibly be interpreted as anything but an effort to undermine moderators of communities with even modest anti-spam and trolling measures in place.
