"The Black Lives Matter Foundation" raised millions. It's not affiliated with the Black Lives Matter movement

A large part of the problem is there is no Black Lives Matter organization, and it may be about time one was formed. Linux had similar problems: An untrademarked, increasingly popular thing was being stolen by predators. They created an official foundation, a sort of holding corporation that'll hold the rights in various countries and provide defense for these "properties."

It could help Black Lives Matter at least maintain a consistent narrative and avoid sniping like this.

Uhm... yes there is. The article even talks about it. See: Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (blacklivesmatter.com), which has local official chapters that can be donated to as well....

That's the first I've seen about a central organization, so my bad on that. However, their site states this:

It is adaptive and decentralized, with a set of guiding principles.

I would still say that the central organization should exist as a legal entity, and carry certain duties like holding intellectual property and maintaining a relationship with some sort of legal presence to defend the organizations against predators. The BLM Global Network site doesn't mention providing anything like these functions, likely because it's sort of the online front for a decentralized movement.

This isn't to blame BLMGN for their actions, it's not their fault this predator took advantage of an opportunity they left available completely by accident.

The problem with that is I very much doubt anyone can attempt to claim ownership over "BLM"/"Black Lives Matter" at this point to legally defend it in any way, since as far as anyone can tell it originally appeared in a July 2013 facebook post but quickly became a very common hashtag on twitter and insta. So what you're expecting here would be similar to expecting someone to do the same with "YOLO"/"You Only Live Once". While some questions were answered (or dodged) to varying degrees, I don't think there was ever a satisfying answer for how funding gets used by blacklivesmatter.com / BLMGN.
