In a similar style, companies will be very hesitant to give feedback for failed interviews because the risk to reward ratio is not in the companies interest. If you give no advice, you lose nothing, if you give advice, you run the risk of legal action being taken over it. It's a tiny risk but it could be entirely avoided by just saying nothing.

I don't no how prevalent this is but like everything else in dealing with this subject I think the person behind the message is key. If you as a man have a history of being honest and have integrity no matter what then this isn't a problem. If you allow people to doubt your intentions and play with gender roles in your behaviour then you might get in trouble right now. The climate will loosen up but old timers is going to have a bad time right now.

I'm sure it helps, but Twitter mobs aren't known to care about facts that much, and a company might opt to sever ties with its CEO if it's good publicity even if he was in the right. I do agree...

I do agree that having integrity helps and keeping a professional distance is always good, but all it takes a trending hashtag and you have a big target on your back not just in the professional sense, but also in the mental health sense. Doxxing and continous harassment are incredibly draining even for people with a steeled resolve.

But how prevalent is this? I know it happens but is it really that big of a percentage and problem in general? I can't see through all the outrage.

I don't know, I purposely avoid that space in the internet, because I was too much involved in it a long time ago. False accusations definitely happen way less then real accusations, an the way law enforcement handles such accusations, real or fake, is very lackluster in general, which is why they often end up in the public eye I think.

I think if we did a better job at having the police work through such cases, victims wouldn't be compelled to make them public and the angry internet people wouldn't flock to those people for some supposed vigilante justice, and bad actors wouldn't utilize it to "cancel" innocent people. The only prolific case I've heard about is Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, but like I said, I don't keep up with it. If a woman working in startups feels compelled to make a post about it, at least the feeling of being harassed in a public forum seems to be prevalent enough for other women to be aware of it. In general it's good that men think about this stuff when working with women, but it seems to be going to far in the other direction.

The article is based on the idea that this kind of advice is valuable. It provides two anecdotes to support this point. But they've failed to show whether this is common cause variation (the randomness of everyday life) or special cause variation (there's something actually happening there).
