Despite going to Yum Cha/Dim Sum semi-regularly for over 30 years now (it being easily my favorite meal out) and generally following most of these rules of etiquette (except for the last grain of rice one ;), I never knew the semi-mythical origins of them, so thanks for sharing. The only other "rule" I am aware of/subscribe to that wasn't really covered in this article is to never pour your own cup of tea first, always offering to refill others' cups first at the very least, unless there is a "designated" tea pourer, in which case you should let them do it.
p.s. Shumai, Har gow, Lo mai gai, Dan Tats and Douhua... soooo good! A few months ago when some family came to visit from out west and asked to go to a particularly well known Dim Sum place here in Toronto I had never been to before, I finally got the chance to try Xiaolongbao and Black Sesame paste filled steamed dumplings (sorry, don't know the name of them), which were also both awesome as well.
