It's something, but not enough. Fraud is rife in the organic program, just google 'fraud in the organic program.' I used to be an organic farmer, and we jumped though a lot of hoops to keep our certification. But then I'd see another farmer down the road also certified, and I knew they were feeding their chickens conventional grain because I saw them at the feed store buying a few ton of it, and they undercut me by a few dollars a pound. Or another neighbor (certified) was getting the horse manure for their fields from the other neighbor who is feeding their horses conventional hay which was sprayed with a persistent herbicide. By the end of it all, I was more than a little skeptical of the process, so it's good to see people convicted and paying fines.
