Aren't pies without meat kind of the norm? Maybe the title should be "Meet the vegan pie" or something like that.

Here's an old television ad for Holden cars. The point of the ad was to emphasise the Australianness of Holden cars, by associating them with other Aussie icons. The ad literally says "We love football, meat pies, kangaroos, and Holden cars." That's Aussie cultcha!

Pies here are meat pies, by default. Other types have to be specified: apple pie, steak & kidney pie, etc. But if you just say "pie", you mean a pie containing beef mince & gravy.

Cool, I'd probably like meat pies. My only reference for Australian cuisine is Outback and I suppose it is not very authentic. Here in Brazil pies ("tortas") are usually sweet -- basically fancier...

Here in Brazil pies ("tortas") are usually sweet -- basically fancier cakes. Salty pies are called just like that ("torta salgada"), we have a good variety of those and they're popular in parties, gatherings, dinners, etc. Some of those pies are like huge sandwiches, others are more involved.
