I'm not sure whether it would be possible to integrate, but another useful reference for D&D 5e is 5etools. It has lots of info similar to the markdown 5e reference mentioned in the article; it's mostly encoded in JSON, but it seems like you could write a script to format that into markdown files for Obsidian. Another interesting idea would be to make a plugin for support for a local copy of 5etools, but plugin support for Obsidian is still experimental.

I've been using Obsidian for personal notes, but I've been considering switching to it for my notes for a D&D game that I play with some friends. It's almost exactly what I've been looking for in a notes app. I've attempted to write a markdown based notes app in the past that looked about the same in terms of editing (although it didn't work very well).

The only minor issue I have with it is that the source isn't available, so I can't help contribute to it if I wanted to. I would be willing to pay for access to the source code and the ability to contribute if that option was available.
