This has been happening on and off for years, and it appears to only have restarted recently.
A good article summarizing the issue (from 2019)

https://old.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/13g4htv/cloudflare_dns_blocking_archiveis/jjyfvst/Edit, an example of what archive.is is actually doing to block Cloudflare's DNS:
$ dig +short archive.is @8.8.8.8 89.253.237.217 $ dig +short archive.is @1.1.1.1 1.1.1.7
The answer that archive.is gives,
1.1.1.7
, is just invalid. (It's in the IP block Cloudflare uses for the 1.1.1.1 DNS server, and has no relation to archive.is.) -

As the name indicates, they have a tendency towards sarcastic humor, but I like it and the quality is good. I generally prefer the mythology videos because Red is a very good artist, but the history videos are also high-quality; If you're interested in Norse mythology at all, their video on Loki is a good example of the channel.
You've got a ton of other suggestions to sort through, so I won't add more, but I'll second some other people's suggestions:
- CGP Grey - very well produced videos on random things, like hexagons
- Technology Connections - pretty frequent videos explaining different pieces of technology

Reddit's data request system asks about GDPR/California's data privacy laws IIRC, but it doesn't require that they apply -- you can just put.
I don't know about after deleting an account though, since it'll be harder to prove that you own the account. It might still be possible, but you'd probably have to go through some support system instead of the normal process. (If you're in the EU, then it might be worth checking what GDPR says about deleted accounts.)

I looked through the gitlab to find some relevant issues / discussions; I wasn't able to find existing issues for a number of your points, so it might be worth creating some new issues.
Edit bumps for megathreads
That's a good idea, though I'm not sure how the mechanics would work exactly:
- Should edits to a topic always bump it? (Should there be an option? On or off by default?)
- Should the UI indicate topic edits like new comments?
- How to prevent abuse? (ie. someone editing their topic every 5min to keep it at the top of the Activity sort)
- With comments, it's easier to prevent the spam needed to do this
(I didn't find any existing issues on this)
Following/Subscribing to Topics
This is basically issue #107 on Gitlab; though another interesting idea would be the ability to personally "pin" a few topics so that they stay at the top of your main page.
A Drafts section
“Shortlisted” groups
Semi related: Issue #552 and #776
Choosing groups from the new post view instead of posting from the groups view
Subscribed topic tags
Built-in invite request form
There actually is a "built-in" invite request system -- it's an email address that gets reviewed by Deimos, and most of the filtering comes from people having to spend the effort to read the docs to find it. It might be possible to build a system to offload some of that from Deimos to the community, but if it's just open / fully unreviewed, then it's just shifting the work back to Deimos again.
“Only New” filter for comments
There's probably an issue for this, as it's been mentioned a few times in the feature suggestion threads, but I didn't find a specific issue.
Rethinking time-limit on Exemplary labels
(I didn't find any existing issues on this)
Add a “Funny” modifier to the “Joke” label
(I didn't find any existing issues on this)
Rethinking the necroposting warning
I think one of the issues with this is that posts older than a month are half-archived -- you can't vote on (or label, IIRC) old comments because of data-retention / user privacy (only the vote count is tracked, not the individual votes). This makes older posts a bit weird to work with, since they have a mix of unvotable old comments and normal newer comments.
Also, it seems like they run into some issues with some of the sorts -- they may only show up in some configurations of activity, and won't show up in the other sorts. (#648)
Relevant but slightly different issue: #748
Improved search
There are lots of issues on the gitlab for search, I won't link them all here.
Mark direct messages as unread
(I didn't find any existing issues on this)
Tag cloud
There have been a few discussions on this sort of thing in the recent meta discussions, but I'm not finding a good match in the issues.
Put a vote button on the bottom of the post for self-posts
I'm not finding an issue for this, but adding the vote button used for comments to the list of actions at the bottom of a post would probably be the best option here.

If you know of Kurzgesagt, each of their videos has its own background music; the full version of each song is available from Epic Mountain Music. They have a distinct genre, but there's a lot of variety in there songs; there are also recurring themes between the songs for related topics. (Though it'd take a bit of work to categorize them by theme -- they have something like >17hrs of music by now.)
My personal favorites are Immune System 2, Ants, and Egoistic Altruism -- they're long, but they're really good. (Which is a general theme with Epic Mountain Music.)
I also have to second @OnceAndFuture's recommendation of the Stellaris soundtrack; there are lots of good video game soundtracks in the space of ambient/instrumental music.
A few of my recommendations for video game soundtracks:
- FTL by Ben Pruty - Ambient electronic/chiptune space music
- Celeste by Lenna Raine - I'm not sure how well this fits the category of "ambient", but it has really good instrumental music.
- Divinity 2: Original Sin - Ambient fantasy music
I'm a bit more limited on non-video game soundtracks, but here's what I've got:
- Wintergatan - I don't know how to categorize this ("folktronica", according to Wikipedia), but it's instrumental music with a large variety of uncommon instruments. (If you've heard of the Marble Machine, it's the same band that made that.)
- The Legend of Korra Book 1 soundtrack - a mix of 1920s and east Asian styles; I wish more of the music from LoK / Avatar was available, but this is the only official soundtrack.
- Nexflix's She-Ra reboot soundtrack - 80s style electronic/orchestral music

It's nice that libraries are catching up with the proliferation of streaming services, so hopefully we'll end up with more services that focus on serving the public rather than aiming strictly for profit.
As a side note: It might be good to edit the title to mention libraries/universities so that it doesn't just seem like a piracy site at first glance (though I'm not sure if you can do that, or if someone with retagging abilities would have to).

To delete older comments/posts, you'll probably have to go through Reddit's data-request system, which will give you a CSV of all of your old posts/comments. I'm not sure if the existing scripts are built to work with this, but it should be possible to delete everything using that.

I'm not sure what happens when a sub is banned or actually removed, but at least for private subs Reddit can still show the comments/posts to someone, so the data has to be kept around.
It won't let you get context for the comments, but it will get you the text and other direct info. (Though I think it just gives you the post id for that, so you might not be able to get the post titles in private subs.)

I put in one a few days ago with a bunch of simple CSS/template fixes, but I've been avoiding dealing with the python side because I'd probably break something... I might follow your lead and try something larger.
One issue that I'm considering is the auto light/dark theme switching, but that touches basically everything to some extent -- CSS, templates, intercooler stuff, the settings page, and database migrations (without a clear default...)

I'm not sure how it'll deal with other multiplayer issues (like asymmetric turn lengths), but it seems like the goal is to be similar to Stellaris, but to make multiplayer feasible by reducing the time commitment.

(Which should be possible to pass into one of the bulk downloader tools to actually archive.)
IIRC the data request takes a few hours to process, and then sends you a link to a zip file through a reddit message. I'm not sure if there are good tools for processing that export, but it's just CSV, so anything that can handle that (ie. excel/google sheets if you're less of a tech person) should work.

The vagrant setup appears to just be setting up a debian 10 image with some bind mounts and forwarded ports, and then using ansible to deploy a dev environment; as long as there aren't nested containers or other kernel-level things being used, the same should be possible with a docker container.

The short answer is that archive.is blocks Cloudflare's DNS resolver (1.1.1.1), which might be what iCloud Private Relay is using (or it might be using another DNS resolver that hides your location for privacy reasons). archive.is's owner disapproves of services that don't send the location data, so its DNS servers send invalid responses instead.
Here's a good article summarizing the issue (from 2019)
