Just thought I'd list a few classic games that are on sale that I would highly recommend to folks that have never played them:
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri ($0.89) is a classic Civ-esque 4X game that takes place on on alien planet. The GOG version comes with the expansion, and I've easily spent hundreds of hours over the last two decades on this one game. At <$1, this is a steal.
Heroes of Might and Magic III ($4.99) is a turn-based fantasy game that goes between overworld empire management and exploration and turn-based hex-tile combat. Arguably the best in the HoMM series and one of the best in the genre.
Pharaoh ($7.99) is a super polished city-building game that takes place in ancient Egypt. It has a campaign mode that gives you a goal to reach for each city and helps with the progression in complexity as you build out your empire.
Alpha Centauri doesn't hold up perfectly today, but if you're at all interested in 4x games I recommend trying it out. It does a lot of neat things that aren't common in the genre.

Gonna buy Alpha Centauri on your recommendation... The oldest Civ I've played is 4, but I love it, so fingers crossed.

Xenonauts is given away for free as well for the next 24ish hours. Get it if you liked the classic XCOM!
