It's based on the Spice and Wolf anime and light novel series. The original writer, Isuna Hasekura, who will be involved in this upcoming game, was also previously involved in a short "visual novel" type VR game called Project LUX, which I found cute and making a pretty good effort to adapt to the medium.

Having the original writer on board is a good sign for these VR games, because it means there will probably be a fleshed out story, rather than just a "looking-at and hugging your favorite anime character" type of VR experience. I'm also glad the Spicy Tails team gained some experience doing VR on a previous project before bringing their higher profile Spice and Wolf franchise to the new medium.

It's interesting to see some of these companies trying to figure out how they can create new experiences using VR. Have you tried out Tales of Wedding Rings VR?

Neat, I hadn't heard of Tales of Wedding Rings. It looks like a decent take on a much more direct approach to translating manga to VR. I would think one of their goals is to appease hardcore fans of the original manga, who will appreciate the fine details carried over from the original. A direct translation probably saves on development time over a brand new story, so the development team can focus on polish and optimizing the reading experience for each scene; apparently Tales of Wedding Rings has a mix of text-heavy scenes and action scenes. I'd probably be able to appreciate if most manga-to-VR adaptations took this approach. Thanks for the link!
