I love reading about early computing and gaming. I had programming professors who were veteran coders who worked in the industry from the times when memory was done with wiring and computers took up warehouses, and they call it the bad old days. I understand what they mean but part of me still wishes I could've been there. Probably not for the very early stuff. The 80s seems like a nice compromise. Playing around with the very early internet and phone systems back before security was a thing sounds like great fun and I definitely would've gotten myself in trouble. But of course who knows, I can only fantasize. I definitely don't take the fantastic complexity and ease-of-use we have today in all respects of our technological lives too much for granted.
