Holy shit this crazy train just can't find the goddamn rails. How much more can Bethesda screw up before people start to seriously doubt Bethesda's competence? I mean more than usual. Bethesda really needs to fix their image of a studio releasing open world games riddled with bugs at launch. It's happened since Oblivion and it just keeps happening. This all seems like some kind of crazy publicity stunt

This debacle is clearly worse than anything Bethesda has pulled so far though. I mean wow. I've watched some documentary stuff on the history of the company and its games and Fallout76's design, bugs aside, seems to be indicative of Todd's design philosophy. He's basically said his game design theory is to pull out and simplify as many systems as he can. You can see that in Skyrim's gutted progression/perk systems. And you can really see that in Fallout 76.

I don't have super high hopes for the next Elder Scrolls game anymore. If it's even playable I think it'll be a huge AAA game but at the same time it'll probably be just a shadow of what the series once stood for.

I can't agree more with your closing statement. It's a god damn shame because I've put so many hours into the Fallout series and Skyrim (Oblivion and Morrowind were before my time, I've tried to play both several times but it's just too dated for me), that it sucks to see what could be the death of the universes I've spent a lot of time in

I really wish I could enjoy fallout 1 and 2 but isometric puts me off so hard. I've been spoiled by modern games so older CRPGs feel reeeeaaal clunky to me

No love for New Vegas? I thought 3 & 4 were fine, but not great, whereas I really got into exploring the world and writing of NV. The fact that the DLC packs managed to do a both a solid survival horror (Dead Money) and an enjoyably campy sci-fi comedy (Old World Blues) also really impressed me!

I've had 1 & 2 sitting on my hard drive since a Steam Sale long past, but from what you're saying it sounds like I should bump them to the top of my list.

I think I may be entirely done with Bethesda games. I went back and played through FO4 recently, and I was really enjoying a (modded) melee game on survival. Beth's games have always been pretty buggy messes, but it's usually not TOO game breaking; at the very least, you can usually find a console command or mod to fix your problem.

That was until it just randomly deleted about 25 hours worth of saves. I mean, its possible that steam's cloud caused the issue, but I had been having weird bugs with the game since the start of that playthrough. What upsets me the most is that I had just bought some of the DLC and started getting into them, so now I highly doubt I could get that money back. Frankly, I don't have the patience at this point in my life to build back up to where I was (I could probably get reasonably close with about 45 minutes of console commands but still). I was surprised that they didn't use a new engine for FO4 because so many of the bugs from 3 were still there. Their games have always felt like they're held together by a tiny amount of glue that starts to break down as you get deeper into the game.

Based on how abysmally they have handled this release, I have a hard time convincing myself that I would be TES6. I am legitimately impressed that they could botch a release this fucking badly. Honestly, a damn doup d'état would make more sense than them intentionally making any of the decisions they've made in the past 2 months. IMO, best case scenario is they fold and sell off rights to FO and TES because I don't trust them to develop games anymore.

Most of the DLC for that game seemed pretty half baked though. Definitely not worth the asking price, but I’d gladly buy the base game again at retail price for my switch.
