I haven’t gotten into the sequels, but they apparently weren’t written by the same author, so I’m not sure they’re worth reading. I’ve picked out The Count of Monte Cristo to read next, and I think it’ll be a great read. Good revenge always seems to make a fun story.

If you’ve never developed on Linux, you’re in for the time of your life because the bash command line makes installing and managing dependencies a dream, especially with the aptitude package manager that comes on Debian-based distro like Ubuntu.
Something that may take getting used to is the fact that no matter how polished a system is, you will always need to use the command line for certain things. This isn’t a bad thing, and really if I can use the command line for something, I do, because it’s usually faster.
Specifically for data science, you can find packages like tensorflow or scipy through apt. I’m not sure if there’s something similar to python virtual environments on windows, but I’d recommend using those as much as possible, and if you can install something through pip instead of apt, do that. All assuming you’re using python of course, but other languages are nice to use as well. There are a lot of great GNU tools for C/C++ like gcc, gdb, and make. I spend most of my time with C, Java, and Python so that’s really all I can talk about. I can say though that development feels a lot easier on Linux than on windows.

That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with it, I admire the work the devs have put into the game, and I love the fact that there is a game as intricate as DF. I just don’t think it’s for me.

Anybody saying they’re incompatible is probably just afraid of anything that isn’t Christianity because they’re not familiar with it.

I love how all the systems in the game can interact, but every time I start a world and try to learn it seems like something I didn’t know existed comes in and wrecks my fortress. I guess that’s why they say it’s more of a simulation than a game, since it isn’t particularly fair.

I love what they did though, by using small stories to lead you to loot and further immerse you. It rewards the player for exploration and makes the world feel more interesting.

Most of the DLC for that game seemed pretty half baked though. Definitely not worth the asking price, but I’d gladly buy the base game again at retail price for my switch.

I’ll have to keep this in mind though, because I’d hate for someone to think I was looking down on them because they worked a service job. Anyone on Tildes have experience on either side of this?

Firewatch was great, had an interesting story and nice visuals, which is always a killer combo. There’s no replay value since there’s no gameplay, but I’m happy with my time and money spent.
Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time with Fallout 4, having a good time with the action shooter elements. I like how there’s different stories to choose from, and more stories hidden all over the game world. The world building, such as the government research facility under the slochum joe’s donut shop is the kind of thing I love, since it’s a story I can discover by exploring the area, reading terminal entries and letters scattered around.

I’m coming back to Tildes now, because I’ve gotten tired of Reddit's problems, namely viral advertisement and the growing toxicity. I was thinking how I really liked the smaller communities, since nobody bothered spamming ads, and it kept the toxicity relatively low, then I realized Tildes was the solution to those problems.
One of the good things about Tildes is the amount of control Deimos has over it. It’s a double edged sword, but as long as users trust the people running the site, it isn’t an issue. Censorship isn’t an issue if nothing valuable is removed, and the community recognizes things like spam and hate speech as valueless “content.” Tildes has the ability to keep the smaller community feel through invite only sign ups.

Jesus of Suburbia is probably in my top ten songs.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Jim Steinbeck stuff too, specifically Meat Loaf’s Bat out of Hell and Bonnie Tyler’s Faster Than the Speed of Night. I love Total Eclipse of the Heart, it really captures the dramatic power ballad vibe.

My best friend from high school drunk texted me the other night and said she’s had a thing for me for a while now, which I’m into but she lives 450 miles away now. I don’t really know what I can do about that but things are weird there now. Also, I’m so stressed out I throw up if I eat more than 700 cal a day, I have some rare incurable cancer, the on campus counseling services are basically nonexistent, and I got rejected from an internship that I’m overqualified for that would have been a great gig. The only thing keeping me going is smoking dope and watching trailer park boys.
Trailer park boys is pretty good btw, would recommend.

That's pretty much the point of stuff like syndicalism or any left-wing libertarian theory. Teach people how to live post money/government then abandon those institutions.
