Being able to play all of the Endless games free for the weekend is pretty cool. I personally loved Dungeon of the Endless (neat combination of rogue-lite and tower defense), and liked Endless Legend (Civ-ish with unique factions and quests). Neither Endless Space games really connected with me, but the first one is apparently completely free to own. I like Amplitude as a dev because they support their games for a long time with free and paid addons.

I own all of their games and I can definitely say that Endless Legend is my favorite one. The setting and style is just so good and the mechanics are great. They way the game handles combat is fairly unique for a 4X and I really hope they come back to make some sort of sequel, spiritual or otherwise, for Endless Legend. Of course, that won't happen for a long time, since they're still supporting EL with updates and addons, but still.

As far as the Endless Space games, I still think they're great games, but they do play differently than Endless Legend (which makes sense with the different setting). I highly recommend everyone at least try out Endless Legend if they like 4X games, and you really can't go wrong with getting either other Endless Space titles on sale if you're a fan of space 4X either.

Oh, and ES 2 and EL have Steam Workshop support, if that's your thing, as well as allow you to build custom factions, so play as one race, but get the bonuses of another, and what not. Just tons of content wrapped in a great user interface, beautiful graphics, and engaging story telling.

Oh yeah, that's the other thing, each of the 4X games has a "campaign" for each race, where you try to complete objectives to win the game by "beating" the story.

      Yeah, great games all around.

I wanted to like Endless Legend so bad, but the combat just takes so long. Everything else is excellent: the races feel special and play in unique ways, the tech tree is non-linear, the game handles strategic resources way better than civ5 (which is my go-to turn based strategy game), and the art style and graphics are just stunning tbh. But the combat just sucks all the fun out of the game for me. I can understand that one might appreciate its depth, but it's just so loong.

I've found that playing at higher difficulties can also make combat much more engaging, but there are still a lot of systems in the combat mechanics that don't really get explained in the game, such as how morale, attack, damage, and defense all come together for a result.
