Remember Breaking Bad? Remember Skylar White, Walter's wife? People were harassing the actress, Anna Gunn, because they didn't like the character. How daft do you have to be? You're making life hell for a person who's done nothing wrong. Projecting your feelings of a character onto the person playing it? Like, imagine if Aaron Paul were suddenly gangsta because of Jesse Pinkman's story, or if Bryan Cranston were considered an experienced chemist. How absurd would that be?
Or – remember Jar Jar Binks? The actor who played him was almost driven to suicide from all the harassment – something he absolutely didn't deserve. Many people are blind that way: fighting the person portraying when the real issue was always with the character. And you know what? I'd be a lot more accepting of someone angrily saying to the actor "Hey, man, fuck is up with that goofy-ass Gungun, huh?! Why'd you play him? He's so messed-up!", 'cause at least that would be about the character, and not the actor.
The messed-up part about the all-accessible Internet is that everybody thinks they have a word or two worth sharing, and that word is usually derogatory in nature.
Well, welcome to the internet I guess. I hope she can learn to cope with this, it seems like anyone with some social media presence just has to experience it no matter what they actually do.
being disliked by people you’ve never met for something you didn’t do is profoundly weird

There has to be a better way than this.

Social media sites need to be much more proactive about banning people who harass their users.
Definitely, sorry if my comment came across as trying to normalise harassment - this is something we should be trying to fix.
