    I feel like this is only a semi-appropriate post because it's just a youtube playlist, but it is IMO the real "meat" of Nintendo's E3 presence: Hours upon hours of actual gameplay footage...

    I feel like this is only a semi-appropriate post because it's just a youtube playlist, but it is IMO the real "meat" of Nintendo's E3 presence: Hours upon hours of actual gameplay footage commented by their developers. This is what eventually convinced me to get a Switch for BotW, for example.

    The amount of polish on Animal Crossing's interface is lovely, that's something Nintendo has really been getting good at lately (thinking of Super Mario Odyssey especially). The graphics have also been upgraded to an absurd degree, the dynamic shadows, depth of field and increased details really make this feel like a next-gen AC.

      Nintendo does a lovely job with both the technical aspect and art direction for their in-house developed games. AC has such a minimalist aesthetic, but they somehow make it look expensive. The individual leaves shaking on the trees, the animation when characters enter a tent, the subtle hair shader...

      Meanwhile, you look at the new Pokemon game, with the flat ground and awful, blurry tree textures and it's just... not the same level of care and attention to detail. I wished Nintendo just said to their third/second party developers, "hey, we'll lend you our environment designer for a month or two" and they could spice this up with a few simple techniques, I'm sure!
