As someone who fell in love with the first of the new Wolfenstein games (The New Order) for a number of reasons including gameplay, story and worldbuilding and someone who was disappointed in the The New Colossus for the same reasons, this makes me so sad. TNC destroyed the characters of the first game, pushed the focus off of the interesting ones to new ones barely anyone cared about and was in it's entirety a step in the wrong direction. Sure, TNO was campy, but it managed to balance that out with seriously interesting characters and a good story. TNC ruined the plot with poop and sex jokes, a slow and uninteresting first 3/4 of the game where BJ is depressed and constantly lamenting about how he's going to die while you feel weak inside Caroline's old armour until the developers pull such an Ex Machina that I can't take anything from them seriously anymore.

Machine Games looked like a promising studio to me, but it seems that The New Order was lightning caught in a bottle. I don't know what exactly went wrong between TNO and TNC, but it seems that their journey hasn't changed direction.

Machine Games didn't make Youngblood. They did however make The Old Blood, which is fantastic. The New Colossus has story problems, but I would hardly call it a bad game.

TNC for me also had lacking gameplay, to be honest. You were way too fragile, forcing you into stealth game while the story around you seemed to assume that you were ramboing through the levels. The guns were decent, but basically the same as the first game, and the game was really bogged down by too much story.

I got frustrated a lot during most of the levels, and I'm not sure if I had a bug in my game or if I was progressing too slowly for the triggers to activate, but I really only heard real good combat music like once, which just infuriated me more.

From what I can tell, Machine Games provided the assets, gameplay, and version of id tech 6 all made for TNC while Arkane did the heavy lifting on actually building the new content for the game.

Why did you like TNC more than TNO?
