The original Half-Life just got patched for some reason
This headline really irks me. Valve has been updating its own game catalog for weeks as it prepares to announce and release a new tier-one title (rumored to be a Half-Life VR game.) I just don't like the editorialization that games are just patched "for some reason". Is a game not an evergreen piece of content?
Even at Half-Life's age, I think it's totally okay to bring out the scrub brush and clean off the rust. The author/editor really don't need to inject such reductive opinions for a company updating their games in good faith.
It never fails to amuse me when I see such old software randomly get patched, especially since Black Mesa exists. It's also nice to see that Valve hasn't lost the source code to the original game...

In recent weeks, I've been thinking of Half-Life 1 again. I'm playing more newer games at the moment (since I got a Switch, basically) but I'm suddenly feeling a bit of late-90s nostalgia. Might as well play some Half-Life 1. I actually always preferred it to HL2. It's so bright and weird, so many different ideas put into it.

It's totally OK, it's just weird.
Can you provide some more substance to add to this opinion?
