If all I got was the gameplay footage and nothing else, I’d have assumed this was some Korean studio making a Diablo III knockoff. It doesn’t look that appealing to me. It doesn’t seem capture the same vibe of being a Planeswalker slinging spells in the card game in its game mechanics. In the card game all your actions are mediated through something else. It’s not usually you interacting directly in the world, it’s more like you in a wizard’s tower waging some kind of larger war. The gameplay is more strategic than ARPG tactical.
I’ve always loved Magic but was never that drawn in by the lore. I enjoyed the swashbuckling adventure vibe of the Weatherlight saga, but as they’ve gone more and more into this superfriends planeswalker story I haven’t been very into it. Are people sincerely really into the Magic lore/story or is it just kind of flavor a la “Overwatch” or “DotA?”

The game looks generic from this trailer, but they've said that there are some deck-building aspects to it, and if you watch the abilities in the bottom right corner you can see them change after they're used. So it seems like you'll probably need to build something like an "ability deck", which might have some interesting potential.
I hadn't actually noticed that bit in the corner. That does seem a bit more interesting. I'm still not sure how good a fit an ARPG as a genre might be. Maybe this is just because, as a Blue...
I hadn't actually noticed that bit in the corner. That does seem a bit more interesting. I'm still not sure how good a fit an ARPG as a genre might be. Maybe this is just because, as a Blue player, the types of decks I prefer to play rely heavily on mind-games, controlling flow and tempo, disrupting other peoples' tactics/strategy, etc. Any time you see characters like that in a game they always gamify the strategy so you get a proxy for mind-games without actually getting to play the mind-games yourself.
