This is great news! I love BELOW's aesthetic and atmosphere, but gave up on it after only about 7 hours of play because of how insanely punishing it was. I am typically fine with difficult games, but at times BELOW felt like being a masochist was the only way to enjoy it. The one-hit death traps were especially painful, since there was often no way to tell the traps were there until you encountered them for the first time in a new area, and getting back to your body was often a painfully slow, tedious and laborious process. All the changes they seem to have made (e.g. no more one-hit deaths, checkpoints not expiring, campfires only going out on death, etc) will certainly help with that, so I will definitely be giving this new mode a spin once they release it.

BELOW is one game where I for sure will be holding myself to the whole 'real' way to play (at 3 am with copious amounts of marijuana, according to a dev [i concur]), but I'm glad I'll have this...

BELOW is one game where I for sure will be holding myself to the whole 'real' way to play (at 3 am with copious amounts of marijuana, according to a dev [i concur]), but I'm glad I'll have this option if I ever tap out. Love everything about its sense of exploration and difficulty, though my last wanderer is a pile of bones somewhere very deep. With the lantern. And no checkpoint lit. I haven't made a run in a while because of that, but I do think about it as much as Outer Wilds, so, a lot for a game.

and the soundtrack is amazing, because it's Jim Guthrie of course
