Oh wow, that's a really big loss for Kotaku and one I wouldn't have expected to see. I feel like Jason Schreier has been the one that writes almost all of Kotaku's big stories that get a lot of circulation recently.

I especially appreciate that he puts a lot of effort into writing about game-industry work conditions, and hope that wherever he ends up next he's able to continue doing that.

Oh I fully expected to see anyone with any kind of talent bounce. I expect anyone decent at G/O left is just biding time until their next gig or side project can get going.

Yeah, this was a pretty shocking development for me, though it seems like there has been some tensions simmering under the surface for several months now. It really is a shame how the parent company G/O media has just gutted their various outlets. Jason's coverage of the industry / workforce issues has been the gold standard for gaming outlets and was the only reason I still read anything on Kotaku. With him gone I don't have any reason to give Kotaku any traffic moving forward.

I am really interested in seeing where Jason goes from here. With the Washington Post stepping up their gaming news efforts, I wonder if he will end up at a larger outlet like the New York Times.

I can't really think of any significant gaming content that's come from Bloomberg in the past, so that's an interesting choice. I'll look forward to seeing what he does there.

Here's what he has to say himself about leaving with links to some of the stuff he considers fondly or is most proud of: Press Sneak Out https://kotaku.com/press-sneak-out-1842900864

He writes some of the best articles on Kotaku. I’ll make sure to follow wherever he lands.
