Quite a few folks have been out sick at my (remote) job recently. I realized that seeing them come back to work soon (or even work while sick) was actually making me anxious and depressed, so I'm trying to work through that. It's really hard to watch people get sick and worry that they'll end up with post-viral illnesses like me because they weren't given a chance to rest; I don't want anyone to deal with what I deal with. (And yet millions more folks are, thanks to the US government not giving a shit and the medical profession being so behind when it comes to acknowledging, studying, and treating post-viral illness.)

At the same time that I'm worried about people to the point of crying, I'm also getting kind of bitter? It's a pretty weird contradiction. Every time I see people I know posting pictures from weddings without masks, or traveling for someone's graduation, or going to pride without masks, I hope they'll be okay... and also feel angry that they can take such risks for fun while people like me are scared to get medical care. I'm starting the process of getting ready for surgery early next year, and my main fear isn't going under anesthesia for the first time with multiple chronic illnesses - it's that I'll get COVID while in the hospital, like so many people have.
