Depression has often been blamed on low levels of serotonin in the brain. That answer is insufficient, but alternatives are coming into view and changing our understanding of the disease.

    I mean, that's been my definition for well over a decade, and anyone—professional or layperson—who still thinks "depression" is a single disease with a single cure, is way, way behind the times.
