Fitness Weekly Discussion
What have you been doing lately for your own fitness? Try out any new programs or exercises? Have any questions for others about your training? Want to vent about poor behavior in the gym? Started a new diet or have a new recipe you want to share? Anything else health and wellness related?
I started my 5k training plan this week. It's been cold but sunny and overall beautiful outside.
I used to run at a pretty fast pace and would basically run to exhaustion, but I've been reading that it's better to slow down and run at a conversational pace for the majority of runs. While it felt a bit awkward at first, I've actually been enjoying running at a more relaxed pace, especially because it means I can go for longer.
And, so far, my knee is holding up nicely!
piedpiper's 5k training reminded me that one of my kids is about to start Girls on the Run (GOTR), a national non-profit that aims to develop confidence, character and a host of other C's in girls through a program that revolves around running. The culmination of the program is a 5k. Another of my kids at a different school doesn't have access to the program, but I'll be running our own "Shadow" GOTR with her after school a few times a week. So there will be a lot of running in my household over the next few weeks. Good luck, @piedpiper! Hearing any updates from you will be inspirational for me.
That sounds like a wonderful program! And thanks for the well wishes. I’ll be sure to update you here on my progress.
I really want to train my cycling sprint this summer, so I'm finally back in the gym lifting weight again. I stopped drinking 10 weeks ago (woo!) and have had an unexpected transition back to a baseline I forgot was normal. Sleeping without melatonin, the energy to exercise, waking up earlier in the AM, etc. I think are all probably linked to not drinking.
I'm looking forward to the warmer weather, getting my biked tuned, and finally getting a power meter!
