In a statement to CBC News late Tuesday afternoon, Kent Hehr, vice president of Fueling Brains, said their daycares source food from Fueling Minds, a catering company which also provides food to other daycare centres.

Hehr said that Fueling Minds' kitchen is supervised by a Red Seal chef. While Fueling Brains and Fueling Minds share "similar ownership," Hehr said they are independent entities.

There's the source of the outbreak right there. Between a catering company that doesn't have the tools to safely transport food, equipment that's left in a state of disrepair, and some very questionable pest control records, this sounds like the daycare couldn't find a way to feed all their kids cheaply enough, so they started a catering company where they could cut as many corners as possible.

I don't want to drop all of the blame at management's feet or speculate about the company's training procedures, but it sounds like the staff weren't getting much of the support they need to work safely.

A quick look on Indeed tells me that they were offering $22/hr for a Sous Chef about a month ago. That's an absurdly low rate for that kind of position and makes me think that they weren't attracting the best talent.

And this is one reason I never eat out. If I don't prepare my own food, I just can't eat it.. People do lots of unsavory things around food, even without malice.

I can't imagine living like this. Sounds so miserable. It's worth the extremely unlikely chance to get e coli to be able to enjoy life.

I don't have any desire to eat out in the first place, I guess. If food were more of an enjoyment for me, I guess I could see it being undesirable.

Interesting. We are all different. Eating tasty food is one of my most enjoyable pleasures, whether home made or restaurant made. Some people actually fit this category....

Some people actually fit this category. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supertaster

I wonder if the opposite category exists.

And for adults it’s very painful but not life threatening assuming you can get to a hospital.
