I’m posting this because a while back there was a really big pushback to the idea of Blue Zones because of a study that found the possibility of a number of those older people actually being dead, existing on paper for pension fraud. I had seen a lot of people arguing against trying to live healthier lifestyles using this as reasoning. Of course, with any scientific literature, the truth is almost always more complicated than it seems. This video is from a science communicator who digs into the details to show why fraud was not an issue with the studies on Blue Zones.

I know that the presenter being vegan may scare off some of you, but please keep in mind that the factors in the Blue Zones studies do not say one needs veganism or even vegetarianism, they instead say your diet should be mainly made of plant matter and animal products should be limited. And beyond that, diet is just one lifestyle factor that the Blue Zones studies identified; they also stress a physically, socially, and even spiritually active lifestyle. All of these are good things regardless of your belief in Blue Zones, so please do not avoid those things because of your thoughts in any of these studies. It’s very difficult to have a happy life when you are unhealthy.
