The U.S. administration has done a solid job in avoiding immediate catastrophe.
Solid job? Really? You know when someone hasn't been paying attention when this is their opinion on the matter. They didn't even take it seriously until days after it was officially a pandemic, and I'm still not convinced they're taking this seriously.
Huge indictment on the USA that this is actually true. Kissinger is comfortably one of most vile, destructive people produced by the country but almost 50 years since he left office the USA...
he is highly influential, even at this stage in his life,
Huge indictment on the USA that this is actually true. Kissinger is comfortably one of most vile, destructive people produced by the country but almost 50 years since he left office the USA political elite are still respectful of and friendly towards him. Every citizen in the USA should have Bourdain's reaction when they hear Kissinger's name:
“Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands. You will never again be able to open a newspaper and read about that treacherous, prevaricating, murderous scumbag sitting down for a nice chat with Charlie Rose or attending some black-tie affair for a new glossy magazine without choking. Witness what Henry did in Cambodia — the fruits of his genius for statesmanship — and you will never understand why he’s not sitting in the dock at The Hague next to Milošević.”
Well this is a great way for him to ensure I don't take anything he says seriously. His assessment is downright laughable. People actually listen to this senile old fart?

One thing's for sure, I thought Donald Trump was sure to get a second term because Biden was in the eyes of many Americans the worse candidate compared to Sanders. But the American public would be...

But the American public would be stupid to vote Trump back in after how he's handled the coronavirus pandemic.
Yes. Yes we would. The question is, when the full weight of this economic crash hits rural America and the pandemic peaks in those areas, how does the Trump administration spin deflect and spread...

Yes. Yes we would. The question is, when the full weight of this economic crash hits rural America and the pandemic peaks in those areas, how does the Trump administration spin deflect and spread disinformation. And will the cognitive dissonance finally be too much for some portion of the Republican base.
I'm really jaded after all the insane day to day shit Trump had gotten away with, and an impeachment on top of it. Even so, this pandemic is orders of magnitude larger than anything he's delt with before in terms of it's impact and immediate relevance to individual people.
To be fair, it's not guaranteed those numbers will last. IMO it'll probably be as close an election as the Bush 43 elections despite the insanity of the Trump administration.
If this model is accurate, we've just about experienced "peak coronavirus" in the U.S. I suspect that, plus "free" money hitting American's bank accounts will give Trump another bump.

I really don't know Mr. Kissinger personally, so can't speak to his intentions. And, to me, some of the things he stated don't seem like they're factual. Take for instance what @jakethedog...

But i at least like the following comment...
Enlightenment thinkers reframed this concept, arguing that the purpose of the legitimate state is to provide for the fundamental needs of the people: security, order, economic well-being, and justice. Individuals cannot secure these things on their own. The pandemic has prompted an anachronism, a revival of the walled city in an age when prosperity depends on global trade and movement of people.
On the contrary, I don't think you need to defend you posting this. I rarely pay attention to the author of an article, especially before I read it, so that I don't fall victim to the fallacy of...

I rarely pay attention to the author of an article, especially before I read it, so that I don't fall victim to the fallacy of appealing to authority. I also knew of Kissinger but I didn't really know how vile of a human he really was, until pointed out by other commenters. So at least I learned something from all of this. And I think it has been pretty respectful here too.

I mean, it's Kissinger. He's coming from a very particular perspective.

There comes a point when someone posting this sort of thing is just acting as a mouthpiece. Particularly without posting a disclaimer.

Yet this pandemic has done wonders for his numbers. He's getting re-elected.
To be fair, it's not guaranteed those numbers will last. IMO it'll probably be as close an election as the Bush 43 elections despite the insanity of the Trump administration.
That's very sad to see.
