This reminds me of the way Buddhist traditions teach to “sit with” a your emotions; i.e. to let yourself experience it, but with the understanding that it is just that, a transitive experience.

I take the cathartic view. In my "negative" daily routine when attending the Church of Metal, heavy weights and heavy metal, this negativity being released ends up leaving me more positive later....

I take the cathartic view. In my "negative" daily routine when attending the Church of Metal, heavy weights and heavy metal, this negativity being released ends up leaving me more positive later. This notion that momentary negativity can create longer positivity runs all throughout aspects of life and a part, consciously or not, of many religions, namely Buddhism with the yin-yang aspect.

Subbing this to Health because it's in the Lancet and it's about mental health, but feel free to move it if other groups would be better.
