I ate dirt on my Saturday bike ride out to go camping for the night. Hit a loose patch of gravel and fell to my left. My knee is badly scraped up, and my hand is bruised, but thankfully nothing is broken (and the bike is fine). Needless to say, I’ve been taking it easy and putting my weightlifting on hold until I’m back at 100%. I was able to get out and go for a couple of 15 minute walks yesterday, so that was nice!

My weight is now averaging 77kg, 2kg away from my goal. I think I might reach the 75 mark for the first time this coming week (and the average should follow shortly after). I'm excited. I'm back...

I'm back to my previous skill level, fully settled and even dare I say comfortable on the ice once more. It's tough to explain, there's this switch that you need to hit in your brain in order to think "Hey, okay, I feel ready to try scary things now". You can't "just try", you really do have to unwind and have the right mindset otherwise you'll be stiff and it won't work.

Tonight I actually started playing with my shoulders a bit more. I am starting to feel that my whole body is now skating, which has been harder than it should have been to get to.

After my most recent coaching session, I'm starting to be able to do 1-foot power pulls. 1-foot slaloms themselves are fairly easy, I've been able to do those for a long time, but for an actual power pull you have to push the ice in a way that gives you speed during the slalom. Very hard sensation to describe, and even harder to reproduce. What worked well for me was pulling my arms in the opposite direction (see 1:10 where she describes "working the shoulders against the hips", but I've had to exaggerate this a lot).

So this is all a milestone, because I feel like, hey, actual progress once more.

I adore the new rink I'm going to. It's so clean and neat and the people are so nice. Today I even brought my laptop to work there between two sessions; that's probably gonna happen again every Friday.

This has been your Tildes Ice Skating Update, back on its original programming after a long hiatus between Season 1 and 2. Today's episode is brought to you by Water. Water: Without it, there would be no ice. Or life.
